International Policy Internships Open for Applications

21 September 2021

The Australia UAE Business Council and Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce have today opened internship applications for later-year university students and early-career professionals, providing opportunities for interns to explore international policy and gain access to leading policy minds across Australia, the United Arab Emirates and Israel.

The virtual internship was established following the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between the Australia UAE Business Council and Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce earlier this year, in the presence of the Hon Andrew Gee MP, the then Australian Minister Assisting the Minister for Trade and Investment, HE Abdulla Al Subousi, Emirati Ambassador to Australia, and Ambassador Jonathan Peled, charge d’affairs for the Israeli Embassy in Australia.

Interns will research policy settings across Australia, the UAE and Israel before presenting a research paper to the AUSUAEBC and the AICC. Interns will have the opportunity to discuss their ideas and research topic areas with relevant industry, diplomatic, and government members.

Australian Co-Chair of the Australia UAE Business Council, the Hon Christopher Pyne said research papers will make an important contribution in developing the thinking of the Australian UAE Business Council and Australia Israel Chamber of Commerce in identifying future collaboration opportunities.

“We are pleased to establish this internship to encourage the next generation of international policy leaders to turn their minds to the significant challenges that our regions currently face, strengthening their understanding of policy issues across Australia, the UAE and Israel,” Mr Pyne said.

Australia-Israel Chamber of Commerce Chairman, Mr Leon Kempler AM, said the internship was a great opportunity for interns to turn their thinking to real-world issues and help identify the unique strengths of each region.

“With the opportunity to engage with international leaders across policy, industry and government, the AUSUAEBC AICC internship is shaping up to be an exceptional opportunity for final year university students and young professionals,” Mr Kempler said.

Interns must outline their area of interest and policy issue during the application process. The internship will commence in late-November and run until March, with successful interns being paired with a relevant industry mentor for the duration of the program.
